Jeannie Fulbright’s Botany Notebooking Journal is designed to be used with her excellent elementary-level Exploring Creation with Botany. (Please see related review.) This spiral-bound book contains all the pages you’ll need (more, actually) to put together a student notebook as you’re going through your botany studies.
There are blank graphic organizers and templates for recording information and observations, review questions for each lesson, and suggestions for additional activities, scripture copywork pages and vocabulary crosswords. Solutions are provided for review questions and crosswords. In addition, there are mini-book templates, printed in full color, for your student to cut out and fashion into small, charming books to record information.
An introductory section includes a note from the author with a brief introduction to notebooking. She emphasizes that the activities are optional, to add to your learning experience, not to be an overwhelming burden. In other words, don’t try to fill out every page, but pick and choose from the many beautifully laid out pages. The author includes a brief description of the types of pages included, and suggested schedules for learning, with an alternative schedule for those who live in cold climates, and options for completing the study in one school year, one semester, or 26 weeks with two days of activities per week.
At the end of your study, your student will have a record of learning that makes a wonderful keepsake as well as a great tool for review.
