Part picture book, part sticker book, and part simple drawing instruction, Walter Foster's Watch Me Draw Thomas and Friends makes a suitable gift for a young fan of Thomas the Tank Engine. (Be warned, however, that "Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends" refers to the characters in the story, not to what you'll be drawing. While reading about Thomas and his friends, you'll be working at simple drawings of elements that appear in the pictures.
The story consists of friendly trains and other inhabitants of the Island of Sobor (a plane, crane, and ship among them, not to mention the always-dignified Sir Topham Hatt). Everyone is hard working, cheerful, and polite. As you read through the book, you practice drawing a suitcase, airplane, windmill, tree, lighthouse, sheep, castle, and more, following the simple step-by-step instructions (start with a basic shape, add lines, fill in details, and finally add color). An included drawing pad gives you a head start in drawing, a starting point for each picture in the book. For example, if you are drawing the flowerbox, the box itself is already on the sketchpad page, along with the shape for the greenery. All you have to add is the flowers, and then color the picture.
There is a drawing for each story page. When you finish your drawing, you have the reward of finding the right sticker to complete the story page.
Watch Me Draw Thomas and Friends is a quiet, cheerful way to interact with beloved characters in a charming make-believe world which brings trains and other machines to life in the young imagination.
